Remove Website Notifications in Safari

On Mac, Safari lets you revoke a site's notification permission in seconds. On iPhone, you manage it through iOS itself. Here are both routes.

On Mac

  1. Open Safari settings. In the menu bar, choose Safari, then Settings (or Preferences on older macOS).
  2. Go to the Websites tab. Click Websites at the top, then select Notifications in the left sidebar.
  3. Deny or remove the site. Find the spammy site in the list, select it, and choose Deny. To erase its entry, select it and click Remove at the bottom.
  4. Stop future prompts. Uncheck "Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications" at the bottom of the same pane. Safari will block the request entirely.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open iOS Settings. This is the reliable route: Safari's own settings do not expose per-site notification controls the way macOS does.
  2. Go to Notifications. Tap Notifications in the main Settings list.
  3. Find Safari. Scroll to Safari in the app list and tap it.
  4. Turn off Allow Notifications. Toggle the main switch off. This silences all website notifications delivered through Safari.

Also check extensions

Some spam comes from junk extensions rather than notifications. On Mac, open Safari Settings, Extensions, and uninstall anything you do not recognize. If your search engine or new tab page changed, a hijacker is likely. Reset Safari settings or remove the culprit extension.

How the trick worked

A shady converter site showed a notification permission prompt, often disguised as a download button or a fake CAPTCHA. Clicking Allow let it push spam ads to your Mac or iPhone lock screen. Legitimate converters never ask for notification permission. Learn to spot the fake buttons.

Frequently asked questions

Will denying the site stop the notifications?

Yes. Choosing Deny or removing the site from Safari's Notifications list stops the spam immediately.

How do I stop sites from asking in the future?

On Mac, uncheck "Allow websites to ask for permission to send notifications" in Safari Settings, Websites, Notifications. Then no site can prompt you at all.

Can I control notifications for a single site on iPhone?

iOS does not expose per-site notification controls for Safari. Turning off Allow Notifications for Safari in iOS Settings handles all sites at once.
